WGSN reports on the latest trends to invest in for surface decoration:
Stripes on stripes : from clean cabana lines to multi-tone renditions, the trend for bold looks is growing.
Triangle trio: pyramids stand out, with diamond-shaped icons forming eye-catching looks.
Circles and curves : soft-edged motifs and silhouettes bring a comforting look and a mystical element to interiors.
Checkerboard tiles : spurred by the revival of board games, tiled placements coat hard and soft items with a contemporary aesthetic.
Mismatch designs : a maximalist approach sees all kinds of geo shapes composed together in a busy but curated placement.
Retro renew: new prints and antique pieces are revived, representing an Art Deco-inspired narrative.
Classic chevron: this sophisticated direction features shimmering tactile finishes.
Mini geos : small motifs create intricate designs in either tessellated or organic compositions

Checkerboard tiles
Domino and checkerboard patterns in new applications offer a contemporary look, spurred by the resurgence of board games.
Designers generate individual flair using surface intervention to elevate a pattern. Korean brand Knead Love works with different clay types to create hand-moulded items. Its small tray features a contrasting smooth and textured finish, highlighted in bold hues.
Artwork can appear artisanal via crafting techniques. US brand Bente Vintage stocks hand-woven organic wool cushions in a checked pattern and the shagpile finish softens the overall style for a relaxed look. By GWSN Bonnie Pierre-Davis
